The average price of an electric car has dropped by $15,000. The American market surprises
New electric cars are not only becoming more popular, but noticeably cheaper. This is confirmed by the Kelley Blue Book report on new electric cars sold in the US.

As stated in the Kelley Blue Book report, the average transaction price of new electric cars sold in the US has noticeably fallen compared to last year. In September 2023, the average purchase amount was $50,683. In the same period of 2022, it was an average of $65,295.
The difference therefore reaches nearly 15 thousand dollars on the car. As the authors of the report claim, much of this is due to Tesla, which not only sold the most electric cars in the U.S., but also greatly reduced prices.
The American manufacturer, despite market domination, is pursuing a very aggressive pricing policy to attract new customers. This can also be seen in Europe, where the base Model 3 can be purchased for an amount comparable to European compact cars.
The falling prices are also facilitated by the growing competition among individual manufacturers. "By the end of the study, we had 15 new electric vehicle models for sale that were not available a year earlier. Better choice and more options help lower prices and increase sales" - explains Stephanie Valdez-Streaty, Director of Industry Insights at Cox Automotive.
Time will tell if this positive trend for customers will continue in the coming months and years. The fact is, electric cars are still not the cheapest, and high prices are the main brake on their popularity.
