Fall has begun, and with it, the first chilling heating bills. How can we ensure warmth in our home without going bankrupt? Here are a few proven ways to heat your home affordably.

The cooler months of the year can be challenging because the climate, despite substantial warming, still doesn't pamper us. Rising heating bills keep many people up at night. Everyone around is asking themselves how to ensure pleasant warmth without simultaneously ruining the household budget. Fortunately, there are several proven ways to save on heating - and that's without having to sit in the cold.

Sealing windows is fundamental. Heat escapes through them

First and foremost, it's worth taking a close look at the windows. In the case of drafty windows, the seals are often the main culprit as they wear out and deteriorate quickly. Damages can be spotted with the naked eye, just take a good look: cracks, wear, loss in the seals. To verify the tightness of the windows, you can also perform a candle test. Place it on the window and observe the flame. If it flickers, the windows are drafty and heat is escaping through them.

Windows can be sealed with household methods, plastic wrap or even old newspapers, which we can use to cover the windows. Larger gaps can be filled with dish sponges - just divide them into smaller pieces, press them into the places of the crumbled seals and tape them.

Let's take advantage of the natural conditions. Let's heat the apartment with light

As long as we can enjoy the sunny weather, it is worth using it to heat the apartment in natural ways. During the day, let's turn off the radiators and make sure to uncover the windows to let in as much daylight as possible. In this way, we will raise the temperature in the apartment and also defend ourselves against the autumn blues, as daylight has therapeutic effects.

During the day, it's certainly not worth sitting in a dark apartment with the blinds drawn and the curtains pulled. In this way, we are further cooling the rooms instead of taking advantage of the natural gifts of daylight.

Let's use radiators sensibly. Let's not make these mistakes

If we want to air out our apartment, let's do it with the radiators turned on so that the heat does not escape senselessly. Do not dry wet laundry on the radiators, which in this way absorbs all the heat - instead, we can place a drying rack nearby, but so as not to completely cover the radiator. It is worth placing aluminum foil behind the radiator, which will additionally reflect the heat towards the room, which would otherwise be absorbed by the cold wall. This trick will effectively save on heating and enjoy pleasant warmth longer.
