Tesla's Cybertruck likened to Picasso by iconic car designer Giorgetto Giugiaro

The Tesla Cybertruck would not have been the subject of much media attention if not for its distinct appearance -- angular, unrefined, seemingly a throwback to 70s or 80s depictions of the future. Elon Musk chose to disregard current trends for this design, resulting in a car that contrasts strikingly with modern stylistic notions.

As anticipated, the Cybertruck has deeply polarized public opinion. Some object, some mock, yet some are enthralled. Supporters of the former two perspectives might now be taken aback. Giugiaro has expressed a largely positive review of Tesla's latest design.

Giugiaro is an undeniable legend in automotive design. The 85-year-old designer was responsible for a host of renowned cars such as the Alfa Romeo Brera, Audi 80, Lancia Delta, Ferrari 250 GT Bertone, third generation Maserati Quattroporte, various models from Seat, Volkswagen, and Fiat, and also - crucially in the context of the Cybertruck - the iconic DeLorean DMC-12.

The veteran Italian designer is all too familiar with breaking away from conventions. Perhaps this is why he can appreciate the design of the Cybertruck and spot elements that many others might overlook.

The DeLorean DMC-12 holds the distinction of being the first mass-produced car in history structured using stainless steel. This is the same material that the Tesla Cybertruck is crafted from. Although using this material is no longer groundbreaking, it might be another factor contributing to Giugiaro's fondness for the latest model from the American brand.
