Tesla owner drives almost 1.24 million miles putting service to work
How much distance can you cover with an electric car? Quite a bit, provided you have plenty of time and resources. Hansjörg von Gemmingen-Hornberg, a German man, has demonstrated this with his Tesla, having traveled close to 1.24 million miles.
Gemmingen-Hornberg isn't a taxi driver. He doesn't drive for a living but he takes great delight in travelling using his car. He drives conscientiously, ensuring not to exceed 62 mph and meticulously takes care of charging the battery, which falls somewhere between 15 to 70 percent. By adhering to these principles, he has managed to journey across half the world with his Model S Tesla, including trips to Africa and China.
His adventure began in 2014. This was when Gemmingen-Hornberg purchased a slightly used Tesla Model S at 18,640 miles and quickly made it his mission to increase its mileage.
Close to a decade later, his car's odometer clocked an impressive 1.18 million miles. This commendable feat did not come without challenges in the form of extensive repairs. The wear and tear to significant parts, such as the engine and batteries, required attention.
The engine saw a staggering 13 replacements while the battery pack was replaced four times. These repairs were essential due to a noticeable decline in performance. The range critically dipped to a mere 161 miles, while typically, a full charge allows for a journey of up to 311 miles.
However, despite the extensive mileage, the car remains in decent shape. The body, as well as the interior, has held up quite well. More about this extraordinary story and his car can be gleaned from the attached video.
