Whether we like it or not, electric cars are becoming more mainstream. The Tesla Model Y represents a perfect example. According to Dataforce, the Model Y was the vehicle of choice for 254,822 customers in 2023. This record-breaking number suggests that the electric crossover has gained acceptance in Europe.

The Model Y performed better than budget vehicles like the Dacia Sandero and Volkswagen T-Roc. However, it does not indicate the retreat of traditional combustion engine vehicles. You can make your own judgement by taking a look at the top 20 list.

As you can see, the Tesla Model Y is not just the most popular car in Europe, but it's also the only electric vehicle on the list. Not another battery-powered car made it into the top twenty. Hence, a revolution in the vehicle sector may still be far off.

Price reduction inbound

Undoubtedly, one of the factors contributing to Tesla's success is not only the attractive price/performance ratio but also its gear, and type of drive. For about $52,510, it's difficult to find anything more reasonable. In addition to this, Tesla has decided to cut its prices even further.

The base Model Y RWD now costs only $51,210. This implies a reduction of $7898 from the former price. More substantial discounts are planned for the higher variants — the Long Range AWD version will sell for $59,091 (a $9204 cut) while the Performance AWD will go for $65,110 (an $8934 slash). Therefore, don't be surprised if the Model Y continues to dominate the market in 2024 as well.
