Teacher faces charges for sending inappropriate photos to student
A 27-year-old teacher from Mississippi, United States, abused her position by sending inappropriate photos to a 16-year-old boy in an effort to ensnare him. Her scheme was foiled when the teenager boasted about the photos to a friend, who informed the school principal. Subsequently, the police were notified, and charges were brought against the woman.
Emily Swinkowski, 27, a high school art teacher from Mississippi, was apprehended by the police after allegedly sending explicit pictures of herself to a 16-year-old student.
The incident surfaced unintentionally. The prosecutor, Jay Hale, reported that the 16-year-old showed the received photos to a friend. Shocked, the teenager immediately alerted the school principal, who contacted the police.
Emily Swinkowski, on Monday, November 20, was arrested and faced her charges, after which she resigned from her position.
According to available information, the woman was released from custody the same day on a $50,000 bail.
This is Not the First Incident of Its Kind
Recently in the US, occurrences of this type of crime have been on the rise. Tracy Walder, a former FBI agent, suggests that this may be due to teachers being allowed to work with children at a relatively young age.
"I wonder if this stems from the power exerted over a student and the thrill associated with it," Tracy Walder conjectured in an interview with "Law & Crime".
In early November, U.S. media reported on a similar case involving 36-year-old Jessica Lawson from Arizona. Lawson, a teacher, was found to be romantically involved with a 16-year-old student. The relationship was exposed when the teenager was stopped while driving Lawson's car. Lawson was found to be intoxicated at the time.
