6:53 AM EDT, April 20, 2024
One of the tracks from Taylor Swift's recent album, "The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology," has been perceived as targeting Kim Kardashian. However, this song addresses past conflicts between the pop star and Kardashian.
On April 18, Taylor Swift's new album "The Tortured Poets Department" became a global sensation. The day prior, Spotify revealed the album had set a new record for the most pre-release sign-ups. At 8 pm Eastern Time, Swift made a surprising announcement on Instagram about releasing a second part of the album, featuring an additional 15 songs. She revealed, "The Tortured Poets Department is a secret DOUBLE album. I’d written so much tortured poetry in the past 2 years and wanted to share it all with you, so here’s the second installment of TTPD: The Anthology."
Taylor Swift Disses Kim Kardashian
Among the tracks from the album's second part, "thanK you aIMee" was interpreted by many as Swift's jab at Kim Kardashian. The capital letters in the title subtly hint at "Kim". In this song, "Aimee" is depicted as a school bully, with lyrics mentioning a "spray-tanned statue" in the protagonist's hometown.
In the chorus, Swift sings: "All that time you were throwin’ punches, I was buildin’ somethin’ / And I can’t forgive the way you made me feel / Screamed "F*** you, Aimee" to the night sky, as the blood was gushin’ / But I can’t forget the way you made me heal"
Taylor Swift and Kim Kardashian's Fallout Over Kanye West
In 2016, Kim Kardashian's then-husband, Kanye West, released "Famous", a track that controversially suggested, "I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex / Why? I made that b*tch famous." West claimed Swift had approved these lyrics, which she and her representative denied, specifically the phrase "I made that b*tch famous".
In retaliation, Kim Kardashian leaked an edited video of a supposed phone call between West and Swift discussing the "Famous" lyrics on her Snapchat. Swift, unaware of being recorded, later criticized the video as manipulated. This led to her withdrawing from the public eye for a period.
Reflecting on the incident in an interview with "The Rolling Stone", Swift remarked that her career was taken from her. She condemned the recording as a "fully manufactured frame job, in an illegally recorded phone call, which Kim Kardashian edited and then put out to say to everyone that I was a liar," In "thanK you aIMee" Swift sharply addresses the betrayal, with one line stating: "Everyone knows that my mother is a saintly woman. But she used to say she wished that you were dead".
