Remus's quest has always been to create a singular look that yells out his individuality. Although content with the results, he is disheartened by the negative reactions this garners from people.
"People spit on me on the bus," he admits despondently.
His journey into body modification began when he was 14. Since then, he has gone through a multitude of procedures to alter his appearance. Now, boasting hundreds of tattoos, various piercings, forehead implants, and a split tongue, he is proud but not yet done. Further modifications are in the pipeline.
Being different comes with a price: The 25-year-old discusses negative public responses
The "Daily Mail" shares the story of Remus, who speaks openly about societal intolerance towards his unique body. He observes how parents shield their children's eyes when they see him on the streets. Verbal abuse and physical humiliation are a part of his experience, with strangers spitting at him on the bus.
"People have spit on me more than once," he discloses.
He admits that his non-traditional look has significantly affected his love life. Prospective partners tend to treat him dismissively and often maintain their distance. Online, he has to face not just criticisms, but also death threats and people telling him he will remain unemployed.
His loved ones aren't fond of these modifications either, but this doesn't deter him.
"I really did and still do not care about my family's opinion. It's my body and my decision," he states.
Despite familial resistance, Remus decisively continues his quest for self-expression, disregarding the question that floats around: "What's next?"
All of his procedures were conducted by his friends. Because body modification is legally prohibited in Denmark, no professional can take up these tasks. He's planning to get his eyeballs tattooed next.
However, Remus admits that, even in his passion for modifications, there are boundaries he won't dare to cross. He would never remove his navel, nose, or a finger, admitting, "That scares even me."
