Taliban minister killed in Kabul, IS claims attack
Chalil Ur-Rahman Haqqani, the minister of refugees and repatriation in the Taliban government of Afghanistan, which is not recognized by the international community, has died. Haqqani was labeled a terrorist by the United States, which had offered $5 million for information leading to his arrest.

The assassination occurred in the capital, Kabul. According to a source quoted by the Polish Press Agency, the minister's death was confirmed by a government official. Haqqani died on the spot.
A spokesperson for the Afghan Taliban, cited by Reuters, indicated that the Islamic State is responsible for the attack.
Chalil Ur-Rahman Haqqani was a key politician in the Taliban government, which gained power in Afghanistan in 2021. He was part of the influential Haqqani clan, known for its connections to Al-Qaeda and accused of numerous bombings in Afghanistan.
Sanctions were imposed on Chalil Ur-Rahman Haqqani by the U.S. authorities. In the Taliban government, he was responsible for aiding internally displaced refugees and the repatriation of Afghans abroad. He was also related to Sirajuddin Haqqani, the current Minister of Interior of Afghanistan.
