Taiwan intercepts Chinese crew for cable sabotage attempt
The Taiwanese coast guard apprehended the crew of the Chinese cargo ship "Hong Tai" for attempting to destroy an undersea telecommunications cable running between Taiwan and China.
Early Tuesday morning, the Taiwan Coast Guard reported that Chunghwa Telecom had discovered damage to a telecommunications cable connecting Taiwan's main island with Penghu Island, located in the Taiwan Strait.
A cargo ship was detected near the incident site, intercepted, and escorted to Anping Port.
Although the ship was flying the flag of Togo, all eight crew members were Chinese citizens. The ship's owner remains unknown, and the registration data shows at least three different names associated with the vessel's identification number.

The crew of the "Hong Tai" ship was arrested and brought to Taiwan.
Chunghwa Telecom has stated that a backup cable was activated, ensuring uninterrupted communication.
