Early Tuesday morning, the Taiwan Coast Guard reported that Chunghwa Telecom had discovered damage to a telecommunications cable connecting Taiwan's main island with Penghu Island, located in the Taiwan Strait.

A cargo ship was detected near the incident site, intercepted, and escorted to Anping Port.

Although the ship was flying the flag of Togo, all eight crew members were Chinese citizens. The ship's owner remains unknown, and the registration data shows at least three different names associated with the vessel's identification number.
