Custom projects are the go-to for those with unlimited financial resources and specific demands that off-the-shelf cars cannot satisfy. In the 1980s and 90s, the Sultan of Brunei epitomized this approach by spending billions on amassing over 7,000 vehicles with his family. Among this collection is the notable Bentley Turbo R model discussed here.
A special order with the coachbuilder Robert Jankel Design resulted in 11 bespoke cars. What sets this Turbo R apart is its extended roof, more spacious trunk, and distinctive all-wheel drive—a rarity for the model. The 1992 custom project was aptly named Val-d'Isère, hinting at the luxury and exclusivity associated with the famous French ski resort village.
It's rumored that each of the 11 vehicles cost 12 times more than the standard Bentley Turbo R. Despite the extensive modifications, the familiar 6.75-liter engine, delivering 300 horsepower, remains under the hood.
One of these rare models recently traveled to the United Kingdom, where it was featured in an episode on the YouTube channel Horsepower Hunters, effectively stealing the spotlight.
