Sugar detox: Surprising benefits of eliminating sugar, including weight loss, improved energy, and fewer night trips to the bathroom, reveals nutrition expert Dr. Eric Berg

Dr. Eric Berg has been advising on nutrition for years. With over a million followers on Facebook, he's pretty well-known in the field. In one of his latest posts, he discussed the effects of eliminating sugar from our diet.

Firstly, the shape of the face changes, becoming slimmer. Excess fat, or the "spare tire", also disappears from the abdomen. Improvement in vision, arteries, and kidney function is also observed.

Reduced need for nocturnal bathroom visits

This benefit might especially appeal to those who visit the toilet several times a night. Consuming less sugar can result in fewer trips to the bathroom - especially at night. Consequently, this leads to fewer disturbances in sleep.

Increased energy is also a significant benefit. Interestingly, while sugar is an energetic food, consuming it in large quantities can lead to feelings of exhaustion.

Furthermore, eliminating sugar reduces the cravings for snacks between meals. Practically, it also reduces inflammation within the body.

Losing weight is another expected outcome of a sugar-free diet. Once sugar is eliminated, our bodies switch to burning fat - and the effects can be noticeable. Skin condition also improves as an additional benefit.

The last point on the long list of benefits is improvement in insulin resistance, which can be the first indicator of diabetes.

Differentiate between changing habits and changing diet

Dr. Eric Berg is a strong proponent of the keto diet. However, this diet is a radical departure from their regular nutrition for many people. Therefore, if we want to eliminate sugar from our diets without revolutionizing it, we must pay close attention to what we consume daily. One must scrutinize food items like bread, dairy, or juices and replace them with alternatives free of processed sugars. For example, consider replacing juice with water and occasionally have fruit. Similarly, healthier bread options also exist. This process, however, requires patience and consistency.
