Serious accusations have been made against the creators of Netflix's popular dating reality-show. As reported by the Deadline website, a lawsuit has been filed in Harris county in Texas against production companies Delirium TV and Kinetic Content who produced the program "Love is Blind". One of the participants in the fifth season, Tran Dang, whose story ultimately did not appear on the platform, claims that she was unlawfully imprisoned by the production and sexually harassed by her television fiancé.
Charges of "aggressive recruitment" and "deliberate shutdown for two weeks" seem to be absurd. The "Love is Blind" program involves voluntarily isolating oneself for several weeks from the outside world and focusing on dating in closed capsules. The creators have already responded to the accusations.
"We document the independent choices of adults who voluntarily participate in a social experiment. Their journey is not directed or filmed around the clock. We have no knowledge or control over what happens in private living spaces when we are not filming, and participants can decide to end the journey at any time," we read in the statement.
According to TMZ, Tran Dang was "continuously groped" by Thomas Smith, one of the men she was dating on a Netflix show, with whom she became engaged. He allegedly frequently exposed himself to her and "forcibly initiated sexual contact with her". The woman claims that she informed the producers about these incidents, but they ignored her.
Her lawyers are demanding a million dollars in damages, arguing that "due to 24-hour monitoring of the plaintiff and defendant Smith by Delirium TV and Kinetic Content, most, if not all, of these traumatic acts were filmed by the production crew and with their knowledge".
The production of "Love is Blind" firmly denies that a participant of the show informed them during the experiment about.
"We take seriously any concerns of our participants and prioritise their well-being. [...] When Ms. Dang was involved in the production of 'Love is Blind', she never informed the producers of any alleged improper conduct. She also did not decide to terminate her participation in the experiment. Instead, Ms. Dang continued the experiment for several weeks after her lawyers claim an incident took place. We deny and will forcefully defend the charges made against us" - claim the creators of the Netflix dating program.
