Strengthening NATO's drone defense from Norway to Poland

Europe needs to strengthen the air defense of EU countries on NATO's eastern flank. Several initiatives exist, but concrete actions must follow them. "NATO countries want to protect themselves from Putin with a 'drone wall' stretching from Norway to Poland," reported Der Spiegel.

The European Union must become a safe continent through its efforts. "The skies over Europe must be safe," said Prime Minister Donald Tusk during the European Economic Congress in Katowice. However, he noted that today there are more initiatives than real actions.

Meanwhile, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock emphasized in "Der Spiegel" that "Russia is deliberately provoking neighboring countries by organizing incidents at their borders".

According to the German weekly, NATO countries want to protect themselves from Putin with a "drone wall" stretching from Norway to Poland. "The drones are to improve the security of threatened states," emphasized Baerbock, assuring Germany's support for these plans.

During a meeting with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Donald Tusk proposed the initiative of joint air defense over the EU. The topic is to be discussed at the next EU summit in June.

Poland, as reported on money.pl, with its air defense projects, could become an important element of the shield. Meanwhile, Germany is leading the European Sky Shield Initiative (ESSI) air and missile defense project. So far, 21 countries have joined this project. Poland signaled its readiness to join ESSI in April. France and Italy have not yet made a decision.
