Strategic focus on eastern NATO border: Michta's call for enhanced mobility
Improving military mobility, particularly on NATO's eastern border, should be a top focus, according to American political scientist Andrew Michta. He suggests that projects like Via Baltica, Via Carpathia, or the Central Communication Port deserve utmost priority. Michta shared his insights on the X platform.

Michta was commenting on an article where Alexander Sollfrank, head of NATO's Joint Support and Enabling Command (JSEC), was quoted. Sollfrank informed Reuters that NATO is under a time crunch to simplify regulations that are currently impeding military movements across Europe.
Based on Reuters' report, these regulatory issues could potentially cause severe transportation delays if a conflict with Russia happens to unfold.
NATO's "Military Schengen"?
Sollfrank suggested the idea of a "military Schengen", an area that would allow free troop movement, resembling the Schengen zone which allows free travel throughout most of the EU.
"Regardless of what it's called, the focus of NATO should be on enhancing military mobility in its domain, especially along the north-south axis of the eastern border. Projects like Via Baltica, Via Carpathia, and the Central Communication Port in Poland ought to be prioritized," Michta wrote.
