The South African Weather Service (SAWS) warns of a storm surge along the coast from the Western Cape to the Eastern Cape, due to strong winds and high waves.
The weather may cause problems
Waves are expected to reach 20-33 feet, and in the southwest up to 33 feet. Heavy rainfall is also expected, which could cause damage to coastal infrastructure and disrupt daily activities.
"Ships are expected to seek shelter, change course to avoid areas affected by bad weather conditions, and delays should be expected over the next few days," Bloomberg quotes a statement from the Danish company Maersk.
Bloomberg reports that disruptions may be noticeable as the number of ships using this route has increased due to attacks in the Red Sea. "The impact of the disruptions is most felt in container transport, with around 690 ships currently sailing around the Cape of Good Hope," Bloomberg reports.
Strong winds may also hinder navigation in some coastal areas.
