Storm Bora wreaks havoc in Greece, claiming two lives
Flooded houses, submerged cars, streets resembling roaring rivers—Storm Bora has brought chaos to Greece and resulted in the death of a man on the island of Limnos. Authorities are urging people to avoid travel in the Attica region, including Athens.
Storm Bora, which struck Greece on Saturday, led to the death of a man on the island of Limnos. The 57-year-old farmer was swept away by water while attempting to pull his car out of the mud.
A 70-year-old man was also found dead in a flooded house on the island of Limnos, although the cause of his death is unknown. Heavy rains have caused significant damage, flooding homes and destroying road and power infrastructure.
Authorities in the Attica region, which encompasses Athens, have warned residents to avoid traveling until Sunday morning. Similar warnings have been issued for the islands of Limnos, Rhodes, and the regions of Central Macedonia and Thessaly.
Storm Bora has brought heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds. These dangerous weather conditions are expected to continue until Sunday afternoon.
