Last week, Stellantis confirmed to Italian unions that it does not plan to close any plants or conduct mass layoffs in the country. However, this doesn't mean everything will run smoothly. Given the current financial situation, some cuts are indeed necessary.
Stellantis management aims to save money by temporarily halting certain production lines, a practice already familiar to Italian workers. The company has just announced further decisions. The first break at the Cassino plant will be a one-day halt on November 29. The second, in Termoli, will last from December 16 to 22.
Company representatives state they are committed to ensuring the continuity of operations in Italy but acknowledge that the path forward requires difficult choices. Stellantis has been facing declining demand and increased competition from Chinese manufacturers for some time. It is also grappling with huge inventories, leading to lowered financial forecasts.
