Stay warm without breaking the bank: Here's the ultimate heating hack
The heating season is approaching. Many of us are looking for ways to effectively heat our apartments without spending a fortune. It turns out there's a simple way to increase heating efficiency without any additional costs.
Temperatures are starting to drop. This means that soon the heating season will begin. The timing depends on the weather. Building managers turn on the heating when the temperature stays below 50°F for at least three consecutive days.
Due to the increase in gas and electricity prices, many people are worried about high heating bills. If you want your apartment to be warm and don't want to spend a lot of money, try this simple trick.
Put it behind the radiator. You'll thank yourself quickly
Autumn has settled in for good. It's getting cold outside, and apartments are becoming cooler. This is a good time to try a simple trick that eliminates the need to turn up the radiators to full power. The trick was published by a TikToker posting as @the.cosyclub.
You only need two things that you probably already have at home—a piece of stiff cardboard (e.g., from a box) and some aluminum foil. Start by measuring the length and width of the radiator, then transfer these measurements to the cardboard. After cutting it out, wrap the cardboard in aluminum foil with the shiny side facing up and place it behind the radiator.
The foil will reflect the heat, which instead of being absorbed by the walls, will spread throughout the room. It's a simple way to achieve a pleasant temperature in the apartment without turning up the radiators.
Remember to switch the window mode
This is just one of the cheap and simple ways to save on heating. Before the heating season starts, it's worth switching your window mode from summer to winter. How do you do that? It's very simple. Open the window wide, then look for a small pin-like protrusion on the frame.
Pick up pliers or a screwdriver and turn it 90 degrees, then close the window. Place your hand against it. If you don't feel any airflow, it means that the windows have been switched to winter mode. This will prevent heat from escaping your apartment.
