Spider-Man spin-off featuring a star-studded cast hits the big screen mid-February 2024. The trailer for Madame Web is now available online, and it looks promising.

The movie aims to grab attention of a wide public, not just Spider-Man fans. It casts Hollywood's actresses: 34-year-old Dakota Johnson and 26-year-old Sydney Sweeney. What do we know about Marvel's latest project?

Madame Web explained

Inspired by Marvel comics, the film portrays the life of Cassandra Webb (Dakota Johnson) - a psychic and mutant who can foresee the future and detect impending danger. Other characters are Julia Carpenter (Sydney Sweeney), Mattie Franklin (Celeste O'Connor), and Anya Corazon (Isabela Merced). Their main adversary is the evil avatar of Spider-Man, Ezekiel Sims (Tahar Rahim).

In addition to these characters, audiences can expect to see Emma Roberts, Adam Scott, and Mike Epps. The movie is directed by C.J. Clarkson (Anatomy of a Scandal). The screenplay is written by Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama, who were behind The Last Witch Hunter featuring Vin Diesel.

Expanding the Marvel's Spiderverse

Madame Web is part of a larger Marvel enterprise. It is the latest in a series of productions based on the Spider-Man universe. After Venom, starring Tom Hardy, and Morbius, featuring Jared Leto, Madame Web continues to weave Sony's Spiderverse. Future productions include the third chapter of Eddie Brock's story, set for November 2024, and Kraven the Hunter with Aaron Taylor-Johnson, due August next year.

The limelight of Madame Web will unequivocally be on Dakota Johnson and Sydney Sweeney. Johnson is renowned for her roles in the racy Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele trilogy. Since then, she has taken on more ambitious projects, like the remake of Suspiria by Luca Guadagnino and The Lost Daughter directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal.
