While some consider "Home Alone" to be the essence of Christmas, some are inclined towards a mischievous green character sketched to shatter the Yuletide cheer. It's good news for fans of the latter: The Grinch returns! And guess who's playing him again: Jim Carrey!

This grumpy green entity held the main spotlight in the 2000 Ron Howard's film "How the Grinch Stole Christmas", penned by Jeffrey Price and Peter S. Seaman. The story revolves around little Cindy Lou (Taylor Momsen, "Gossip Girl"), who sets out on a mission to deal with the fussy creature and persuade him to appreciate Christmas. Despite its hefty production cost of $123 million, the film was a commercial success, raking in over $345 million.

After 23 years since its release, the Daily Mail has reported a sequel to this iconic movie is on the way. Jim Carrey is set to reprise the role of this grumpy creature. This information, however, remains unconfirmed by the actor himself, which is intriguing given his repeated criticisms against sequels- which he considers a blemish on modern culture.

Just six years ago, in an interview with CinemaBlend, Carrey expressed, "To me, sequels mostly have a commercial objective. The two I was a part of. I enjoyed playing those characters, but it felt like I was merely a parrot. A decade after the last sequel, you tend to ask, 'Ho, how did I even pull this off?'... So, you just up imitate your original inspiration." These were Carrey's justifications for his dislike of film sequels.

Given these sentiments, the speculation of him appearing in another "Grinch" sequel comes rather unexpectedly, especially after the "The Mask" actor announced his retirement from acting last April, feeling convinced he'd had his fill. However, he hinted at a possible comeback.

When Access Hollywood probed about his retirement, he responded, "It depends. If there was a script given to me by angels, written in golden ink, assuring me it holds high importance for others to view, I might consider continuing," Carrey admitted.

So, does the "Grinch" sequel meet these conditions for the 61-year-old's potential return to the big screen? Further details are yet to be announced.
