"Squid Game" broke all Netflix records, becoming its best historical production. Within 28 days of its premiere, the series was watched by 142 million viewers. The bloody gameplay terrified, repulsed, and surprised at every turn. What is known about the second season?

The series achieved great success during the pandemic. It attracted 140 million users in September 2021, breaking the "Bridgerton" record. Continuing "Squid Game" became a business necessity, but fans had to wait a long time for it. Everyone wondered what the second season could show: another game with the same rules? Let's recall that the first season depicted a world of depraved rich people who enjoy watching brutal, bloody tasks for their entertainment, where many die under horrific conditions, competing for 45 billion won, approximately 37 million dollars.

Second season of "Squid Game" - Netflix shares new updates

Netflix shared the first teaser of the second season of the Korean production. It's not a full-fledged trailer yet but merely a taste, so Netflix doesn't reveal much. However, what has been speculated for months is now confirmed: the return of Gi-hun, who will play the bloody game once again on December 25th.

As Netflix describes it: "Three years after winning Squid Game, Player 456 gave up going to the States and comes back with a new resolution in his mind. Gi-hun once again dives into the mysterious survival game, starting another life-or-death game with new participants gathered to win the prize of 45.6 billion won (approx £28.2 million)."

The first season of "Squid Game" premiered on September 17, 2021, and immediately captured the attention of millions worldwide. Nothing like this had been seen on television or streaming before. The brutal game trended in 94 countries, attracting 142 million internet users who spent 1.65 billion hours watching "Squid Game" in the first four weeks after its premiere. The series became a brand worth 900 million dollars.
