Spirit Airlines cracks down on revealing and offensive outfits
American airline Spirit Airlines has implemented strict guidelines regarding passenger attire. Outfits that reveal too much contain transparent materials or feature offensive slogans may result in a denial of boarding. These restrictions aim to ensure comfort and order during flights.
Spirit Airlines has published a detailed "contract of carriage" that clearly specifies which attire is acceptable on board and which is not. These rules apply to both passengers in the terminal and those who have already taken their seats on the plane. According to reports, the crew and ground staff make the final decision on whether the attire is appropriate.
What does Spirit Airlines not accept?
Under the new rules, clothing that reveals too much skin, transparent clothing, or tattoos with offensive messages are unacceptable. The airline clearly states that:
- Shirts that expose the stomach in a vulgar manner are not allowed.
- Leggings are unacceptable as a substitute for pants.
- Clothing with obscene messages is prohibited.
- Travelers must wear underwear, and undressing to it during the flight is forbidden.
- Being barefoot when boarding is not accepted.
Although most airlines have dress code policies, Spirit Airlines enforces them the most. United Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and American Airlines also require passengers to avoid attire that may offend other travelers. For example, at JetBlue, children under the age of 5 may travel barefoot, but adults must be properly dressed.
It is worth noting that dress code rules for regular airlines do not apply to private jets. It is reported that well-known individuals, such as Lauren Sanchez, Jeff Bezos' partner, can freely travel in controversial outfits.
