Spice up your holiday gatherings with herring delights
We have many great opportunities to catch up with family and friends over some tasty snacks. See if herring with sun-dried tomatoes suits your loved ones' palates.
Herring marinated in oil with sun-dried tomatoes and Dijon mustard makes a casual snack with an impressive appearance. It's easy to prepare and works well as finger food. Below are a few ideas for how to serve it at a party.
What kind of herring should you use for the snack?
Herring with sun-dried tomatoes is easiest to prepare using fillets marinated in oil. Unlike brine fillets, you don't need to soak them. Simply rinse them once or twice under running water, and they'll be ready for your snack.
If you have brine fillets, you can use them, but you must allocate an extra day for soaking the herring.
Can you prepare herring with sun-dried tomatoes just before the party?
It's not the best idea. Although the snack will be edible, the ingredients won't have time to meld. It's best to prepare the herring with sun-dried tomatoes a day earlier and refrigerate them to develop flavor. This way, you'll have time for other things before the party.
