The law determining the order of succession to the British throne changed in 2018. Male-preference primogeniture was abolished, and, as a result, Charlotte now holds the third place in the line of succession. This made her the first British princess in history who would not be displaced by a younger brother in the line of succession.
The question of what Princess Charlotte's title will be after her father's expected coronation intrigues many. Prince William and Kate Middleton's oldest son, Prince George, will then become the Prince of Wales. His younger brother, Prince Louis, would receive the title of Duke of York following the demise of Prince Andrew, the current titleholder.
Could Princess Charlotte give up her title in the future?
There are several prospects for Princess Charlotte. She could inherit the title of the "Queen's Princess," currently held by Queen Elizabeth's daughter, Princess Anne. However, this would only happen after Princess Anne's demise. The former royal correspondent for the BBC explains that Charlotte has the choice to keep her current title or relinquish it.
"She might prefer to remain just Princess Charlotte... Perhaps Charlotte won't even use the title of Princess when she grows up," suggested Jennie Bond in the pages of "Ok!" magazine.
Considering William and Kate's efforts to project a more modern and approachable image of the monarchy, including preferring to be addressed by their first names, it's conceivable that Charlotte might follow their lead. What do you think?
