A tragic incident occurred in Las Vegas involving a Tesla Cybertruck, whose driver, Matthew Livensberger, shot himself just before the vehicle exploded. According to the sheriff of Clark County, Kevin McMahill, Livensberger was a special forces soldier on leave from service in Germany.

Explosion of the Tesla outside the Trump hotel

Livensberger purchased two guns, one of which he used to commit suicide. The explosion took place at Donald Trump's hotel, and the soldier's motives remain unknown. Sheriff McMahill emphasized that identifying the body was challenging due to the severe charring; however, documents found on the deceased and fragments of a tattoo confirmed his identity.

FBI agent Spencer Evans, leading the investigation, ruled out any connections between Livensberger and terrorist organizations. Although some similarities to the New Orleans bomber were noted, no evidence of links was found. Both men served in Afghanistan in 2009 and used the Turo app for vehicle rentals.

Investigation into the explosion

FBI representatives and ATF services acknowledged that the bomb constructed by Livensberger using fuel cans and fireworks was makeshift and lacked a complex design, which "we would expect from an individual with this type of military experience."

Many elements of the charge that did not explode were discovered in the Tesla's trunk, suggesting that the intention might have been to cause a much stronger explosion.

A team of specialists from Tesla is set to assist in the investigation by attempting to retrieve recordings from the vehicle's cameras. The investigation is being conducted by the FBI and local services, which are trying to determine all the circumstances of this tragic event.
