Spanish cinema mourns: Iconic actress Marisa Paredes dies at 78

Marisa Paredes, one of the most important figures in Spanish cinema, has died at the age of 78. The actress was known for her roles in Pedro Almodóvar's films, such as “The Flower of My Secret” and “All About My Mother.” The news of her death was announced by the Spanish Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences. According to "El País," Paredes died on Tuesday morning at the Jiménez Díaz Foundation University Hospital in Madrid.

During her more than six-decade-long career, Marisa Paredes appeared in many films, gaining international fame thanks to her collaboration with Pedro Almodóvar. The Spanish Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences—an institution that Paredes chaired from 2000 to 2003—announced on their X service: "Spanish cinema has lost one of its most iconic actresses, who left behind a long and fruitful career."
