Sleep hygiene alert: Change your pillowcase every 3 days

It may seem like nothing could be simpler than putting a pillowcase on a pillow. However, many people overlook the fact that this task impacts our skin, among other things. So, how often should you change your pillowcase? A significant portion of the population does it too infrequently.

Sleep hygiene is a crucial aspect of our lives. To allow the body to rest, we air out the room, ensure it is at the right temperature, and change our bedding. Changing the pillowcase is also an action that should be performed regularly. However, many people make the mistake of changing it too infrequently.

How often should you change your pillowcase? More often than you think

The material of a pillowcase comes into contact with our hair and facial skin. The skin is affected by leftover cosmetics embedded in the material, as well as our sweat, germs present on the pillowcase, pollutants, dirt, and dust. For these reasons, replacing this part of your bedding should be done more frequently than you might think.

So, how often should you reach for a clean pillowcase? Changes should be made every two to three days. This frequency is especially important for people with oily skin, those prone to blemishes, or individuals struggling with quickly greasing hair and excessive hair loss.

It is also important not to wash pillowcases with strong detergents. Detergents with natural ingredients that are safe for delicate skin and hair are much better.

Not just frequency

Another crucial factor is the material from which pillowcases are made. Cotton is sufficient for other parts of the bedding. However, something gentler is needed when it comes to the material that touches our face and hair. Cotton satin is often recommended. Another great option is breathable, cool silk, which is ideal for those with delicate hair.
