Coffee or tea grounds and leftover food on dishes can build up in the drain. Initially, it may seem like there's nothing there. However, after removing the "basket" and the metal part, you'll notice a completely different situation. Over time, lingering food debris will start to emit an unpleasant odor and become a large breeding ground for bacteria.

It's important to remember that if we don't clean the sink and drain regularly, we will eventually cause a blockage in the pipes. In extreme cases, this may require professional help.

Home remedies for cleaning the drain

Before resorting to chemical agents that are highly corrosive and can be hazardous to our health, try home remedies. They may prove to be much more effective, and they offer a much cheaper alternative compared to store-bought products.

One of the most effective methods for unclogging the drain is a mixture of baking soda and vinegar. Simply pour half a cup of baking soda and half a cup of vinegar into the sink, then place a cloth to plug the drain. The generated foam will start removing the dirt. After about 30 minutes, remove the cloth, and for better results, pour boiling water over everything.

The second tip helps us maintain even better cleanliness. Few people remember to clean the drain under the "basket."

How to do it? Pour 4 teaspoons of baking soda, half a cup of vinegar, squeeze just under half a lemon, and mix. Remove the "basket" and unscrew the lower part of the drain. Then, using a toothbrush, scrub the entrance to the pipes with the prepared mixture.
