Not everyone realizes that neglecting stove cleaning increases the risk of fire. Grease and dried food residues can easily catch fire, posing a danger to the home. Many people neglect regular cleaning because they don't want to waste time and effort scraping off dried-on dirt. This is often due to using the wrong detergents that aren't effective enough and require intense scrubbing. We present a few easy-to-prepare mixtures that can help solve this problem.

Do dirty burners damage the stove?

It's worth knowing that burners clogged with residues lose efficiency. Excess deposits block the vents, making it difficult for the gas to escape. As a result, the flame is smaller and takes more time to heat a pot, which additionally increases gas costs by several dozen dollars annually. Dirty burners and clogged nozzles can cause the gas to back up into the interior of the stove, leading to malfunctions that require repairs by a professional.

Besides technical aspects, it's also important to consider the kitchen's aesthetics. Dirty burners negatively affect its overall appearance, even if the rest of the kitchen sparkles with cleanliness. During cooking, grease-covered surfaces start to heat up, which may cause an unpleasant burnt smell to linger in the room for a long time.

Cleaning gas stove burners

Cleaning burners may not be the easiest task, but with the help of a few home methods, it can be significantly simplified. There is no need to invest in specialized chemical agents; only a few ingredients we usually have at home are sufficient.

The first proven method is combining salt with lemon juice. Mix the ingredients to form a paste with the consistency of wet sand and apply it to dirty burners and other stove surfaces. After a few minutes, simply wipe it away, and the dirt disappears effortlessly. A similar effect can be achieved by using a mixture of baking soda and vinegar, which can also be applied to the entire stove, left for a few minutes, and then cleaned.

For particularly stubborn burnt residues on burners, removing them and soak them in a solution of water and vinegar in a 1:1 ratio is recommended. They should be soaked for at least an hour and then thoroughly scrubbed with a wire sponge or brush with hard bristles. After cleaning, rinse and wipe them dry to avoid water entering the stove's interior.
