Moisture is wood’s biggest enemy for several reasons. First and foremost, wood is a hygroscopic material. What does this mean? Simply put, it means that wood absorbs and releases moisture from its surroundings. As a result of this process, it can swell, shrink, and deform. In extreme cases, prolonged exposure to moisture leads to serious structural damage, such as cracks, deformations, and even rotting.

Wooden garden furniture

Wooden garden furniture is particularly vulnerable to moisture. Rain, dew, and even humid air can affect its condition. Waterlogged wood loses its mechanical properties, leading to its weakening. Additionally, moisture fosters the growth of mold and fungi, which not only mar the surface of the furniture but also accelerate its degradation.

Wooden decks

Wooden decks are a dream for many garden owners. Their natural look fits perfectly with the surroundings. However, to ensure the deck lasts for many years, it is essential to properly protect the wood from moisture. Deck boards exposed to atmospheric precipitation can quickly lose their utility and aesthetic values. Moisture penetrates cracks and micro-cracks, contributing to the wood's deterioration.

Gazebos and other structures

Not only furniture and decks but also gazebos, pergolas, and other wooden structures in the garden require protection from moisture. Wood can deteriorate rapidly in shaded areas and those exposed to constant dampness. Particular attention should be paid to joints and bases of structures that have direct contact with the ground.

Wood impregnation: protection from moisture

How can we protect against moisture's impact? The solution is simple: wood impregnation, preferably with deep-penetrating agents that create a protective barrier inside the wood's structure while ensuring proper ventilation. This allows the wood to "breathe" and avoid moisture condensation.

Many products on the market protect for up to 12 years, strengthening the wood and creating a flexible coating.

Maintenance and conservation

Regular maintenance and conservation of wooden elements in the garden are key to their longevity. It is worth systematically checking the condition of the wood, removing contaminants, and using protective agents. It is good to store garden furniture in a dry place off-season. Thanks to these simple procedures, wooden elements in the garden will serve for many years, maintaining their natural charm.

Create a beautiful garden

Moisture is wood’s biggest enemy, but with the right preventive measures, we can effectively protect our wooden furniture, decks, and structures in the garden. Choosing the right materials, impregnation, proper construction, and regular maintenance are key elements that will allow us to enjoy the beauty of wood for many years. Well-maintained wood not only retains its aesthetic values but also increases the value of our garden, creating a harmonious and durable space for relaxation.
