Fans didn't have to wait long for their prayers to be answered. The official decision to film the second season, and perhaps even the third season, of "Shogun," which is already being called this year's phenomenon, has been made. Here's what we know so far.

Numbers don't lie: the first episodes of "Shogun" were watched by almost 10 million viewers! The series is available worldwide on three platforms, and enthusiastic reviews likely contributed to this result. There hasn't been such a high-quality and gripping series in a long time.

No surprise: it's already clear that "Shogun" will be one of the productions nominated in next year's Top Series poll. Along with the positive reception by viewers, expectations arose for the creators to start working on a continuation. The decision could only be one!

"Shogun" Disney+ will have additional seasons

The saga will continue – probably two more seasons will be produced. "The creators of the critically acclaimed series are starting work on its continuation," reads the official Disney+ statement.

At what stage is the work? Scriptwriting will start in this year's summer, so filming probably won't start for the next 12 months. Key creative partners of the series, including co-creators, executive producers, and writers Justin Marks and Rachel Kondo, executive producer Michaela Clavell, and the star of the series and producer Hiroyuki Sanada, who plays Lord Toranaga, are involved in the continuation.

The first season of "Shogun" is available on Disney+.
