Dating in the modern world can feel like navigating through a minefield. On one hand, the internet provides more opportunities to meet potential partners; on the other hand, it also increases the chances of disappointment. This was the experience of Vanessa, a resident of Canada, who wants to alert other women not to err as she did.

Vanessa shared an unfortunate online dating experience with her 23,000 TikTok followers. She divulged that she had been interacting with a man on a dating app. Their conversation seemed to be going well, so when he suggested they meet, she was excited.

The man provided an address for their date. Without verifying the location, Vanessa went there. To her surprise, the meeting place turned out to be McDonald's. She subtly expressed her disappointment with his choice of venue.

"At least I got a diet cola out of this"

Vanessa humorously noted that the date was not a complete loss; she got a diet coke out of it. Almost 332,000 views on her story indicate that many people can relate to the challenges of dating in the digital age.

"Let me break some bad news to you. I am nearly 50 years old, single, and I use dating apps. It doesn't get any easier..." - one viewer commented.
"Why is dating so challenging these days??? I don't even know what to believe and what to ignore..." - lamented another.

Quite a few commentators joked that Vanessa's experience is one of the many reasons they're hesitant to use dating apps.

Still, some firmly believe that a first date at McDonald's can be a good idea. That could in fact be a gauge, they argue, to test whether the woman is interested in the man and not monetary perks associated with the date.

What's your take? Is a fast-food establishment an appropriate venue for a first date?
