Vanusa Freitas is no stranger to marriage proposals. However, this particular proposal from an Arab sheikh, who wanted her as his sixth wife, was a standout.
An offer of 300 camels for marriage
Vanusa Freitas recounts her trip to Dubai where the man offered her 300 camels, equivalent to over $20,000, to become his wife. The catch, however, was that he already had five other wives, and she was to be the sixth. In Arabic culture, camels hold much significance, embodying not just a beast of burden, but symbolizing transport, wealth, and pride. A camel as a wedding gift represents a significant gesture.
A moment of hesitation
Though appreciating the Sheikh's proposal, Freitas decided to decline his offer after much contemplation.
"The proposal came on the second day of my stay in Dubai. The lavish lifestyle was tempting, but it's not every day that such comfort and luxury are presented."
Freitas arrived at the decision that accepting such an offer contravened her personal beliefs and values.
"I thought it over and eventually decided against it. This situation was completely against my beliefs."
This, however, didn't prevent her from maintaining a cordial relationship with the Sheikh. Despite rejecting his proposal, Freitas admitted to still keep in touch with him.
"Living as an influencer has its boundaries. I've consistently stayed true to myself. The offer was extraordinary, but jeopardising my personal identity and values for money wasn't conceivable."
Her decision was met with admiration and appreciation by observers, who commended her stance in rejecting such a "tempting offer."
