Dr. David Weeks published surprising research findings in the 1990s on how women can maintain a youthful appearance. The scientist found that women who achieve orgasm three times a week look approximately 10 years younger than those reaching climax twice a week.
Similar results were found in research from 2013, which determined that couples aged 40-60 who maintained an active sex life looked 5-7 years younger than their peers with less frequent sexual activity.
The rejuvenating effect of sex
During orgasm, a longevity hormone called DHEA is released. Moreover, regular sex helps maintain good fitness, strengthens the heart, and improves well-being. Research suggests that sex can positively impact mental acuity and mental health. During intercourse, prolactin is released, a hormone that plays a crucial role in neurogenesis, the formation of new neurons in the brain.
- When you have an orgasm, your heart rate as well as your blood pressure will go up. This, in turn, will increase circulation, which will help provide oxygen and nutrients to the skin, flushing out toxins faster too, – said Dr. Shirin Lakhani in an interview with Dazed portal.
The intimate health expert also added that during orgasm, large amounts of estrogen are released, which plays a significant role in the production of collagen, the structural protein of the skin.
But that's not all; the benefits of orgasm are not reserved solely for people in relationships. Masturbation can bring the same positive effects. Regardless of whether we have sex with a partner or solo, it is the healthiest and cheapest way to rejuvenate the body.
