Scientists have shared the results of new research, revealing that women who suffer from depression but regularly engage in sexual activity do not experience such severe symptoms. However, the data also highlighted a worrying correlation between the frequency of sexual activity and the risk of death.

The Lad Bible reports the results of a new study, presenting a disturbing finding about women whose sexual activity is irregular. Experts had previously emphasized that intimate moments with a partner help improve immunity and better cope with stress.

Researchers from Walden University in Pennsylvania created a database, asking study participants about the frequency of their sexual intercourse over the past 12 months. Ninety-five percent responded that they had sex at least 12 times during the year, with 35% reporting at least once a week.

The results of this survey were compared with statistical data on deaths through the end of 2015, revealing something alarming.

The risk of death increases by 197%

After analyzing the two databases, researchers concluded that individuals with low levels of sexual activity and who suffer from depression had a 197% increased risk of death compared to those who also suffer but regularly have sex.

- Individuals with depression but high sexual frequency don't feel harmful effects of depression as much, - explained Dr. Srikanta Banerjee, the lead author of the study, in an interview with the "Daily Mail".

However, the data showed different results for men and women. The beneficial effect of regular sexual intercourse was observed only in women, which scientists believe is due to depression manifesting differently in men.

Researchers also emphasized that women aged 20 to 59 who have sex less than once a week have a 70% higher likelihood of death from any cause within five years compared to women who more frequently share intimate moments with a partner.
