Schiff wins Californian United States Senate primaries. Garvey takes the second place and also gains the nomination
The race in the Californian United States Senate primaries was tense. In the end, Adam Schiff won first place and the nomination, and Steve Garvey took second place and the nomination as well. Adam Schiff represents the Democratic Party, and Steve Garvey represents the Republican Party.
The map of the support for the either candidates shows that the Democratic Party candidate Adam Schiff, as expected, gained the majority of his votes on the coast of California while the Republican Party candidate Steve Garvey took the majority in the inlands.
Adam Schiff was the first to be predicted gaining the nomination, he gathered about 35% of the votes in total, Steve Garvey gathered slightly less, about 30% which gives Schiff 5 percentage points advantage.
The third place was taken by the another Democratic Party nominee - Katie Porter, she did not manage to win the nomination by has gathered 14.5% of the total votes. The fourth place was also taken by the Democratic Party representative - Barbara Lee (7.2%) and the fifth by the Republican Party nominee Eric Early (3.6%). The results give edge to the blue side of the political scene, but the number of the nominations stays equal.
NBC News gives some summary of the conduction of the campaign:
In the final stretch of the race, the battle grew ugly between Schiff and Porter, the top-polling Democrats in the race. Schiff cultivated his national profile by battling former President Donald Trump as the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee. Porter, a populist who flipped a former GOP-held district in 2018, ran on a platform of taking on corporate power and addressing working class economic needs like the cost of child care.
Schiff, who led in many polls in the run-up to the contest, has sought to lock out Porter by running ads elevating Garvey in the hope that he will be his opponent in the fall. Schiff's Democrats are favored to win the general election in the solidly blue state.
The results of the election were quite as expected. California is considered to be the Democratic Party state.
