Scandal to spotlight: A love story defies the odds
Emmanuel Macron and Brigitte Macron married in 2007. It was for the politician that the teacher, 25 years his senior, divorced her husband. On the occasion of the 47th birthday of the President of France, we take a closer look at the story of their love.
Emmanuel Macron was born on December 21, 1977. From the outset, his relationship was controversial. It seemed the couple had to face almost the entire world together. Even Brigitte Macron's children did not initially warm to her chosen one. However, they proved that true feelings can overcome everything.
Their relationship is a ready-made film script
Brigitte was a French teacher, and Emmanuel was her student. Moreover, the woman, 25 years older than him, already had a husband and children. It seemed that society would find it very hard to accept this relationship.
- A separation is painful, but when there is something particular, it’s even more painful. I learned a lot about human nature. I know that, at times like these, you have to focus on what’s essential and move forward regardless of criticism. The attacks, the backbiting, the judgments. It wasn’t yet the age of social networking, but we were in a small provincial town. People knew everything - emphasized Tiphaine Auzière, the stepdaughter of the President of France, in an interview quoted by "The Telegraph".
The couple decided to marry in 2007. Less than 10 years later, Emmanuel Macron was elected President of France, making his wife the First Lady, with whom he represents the country on the international stage, among other things.
He dealt with rumors
In 2021, two French women posted a video on YouTube claiming that Brigitte Macron was born a boy named Jean-Michel Trogneux. There indeed is such a man, and he is the brother of the First Lady. In June 2023, the women were ordered to pay damages for spreading false information. Unfortunately, this did not silence the rumors.
Emmanuel Macron, during a speech for International Women's Day on March 8, 2024, decided to address the speculation on this topic.
- The worst thing is false information. People eventually believe them and disturb you, even in your private life - quotes Emmanuel Macron, "The Pink News".
