The fact that "Divine Diego" played for FC Barcelona, just like Messi, only added to the intrigue surrounding them. Even today, many fans and pundits alike argue over who is the best soccer player in history, with Messi and Maradona often occupying the top spots.

Before the World Cup in Qatar, Maradona had an edge as he led the "Albicelestes" to World Cup victory. In 1986, he won the World Cup for Argentina, held in Mexico.

The Qatar tournament was anticipated as Messi's shot at the missing piece in the jigsaw of his career. Despite winning a silver medal in Brazil 2014, eight years later, Messi finally claimed the much-coveted gold medal. This victory has led many to rank Messi higher than Maradona, considering his remarkable club achievements surpassing those of "Divine Diego". Lionel Scaloni, Argentina's manager, shared his take on the debate.

For me, Maradona was great, but Leo Messi is the best in history - Scaloni confirmed in a conversation with "El Partidazo de COPE", unambiguously endorsing Messi as the GOAT (Greatest Of All Time).

What lies ahead for Messi?

Lionel Messi's contract with Paris Saint-Germain is due to expire in the summer of 2023. Messi has been at the club since 2021, prompting several speculations about his future.

According to "Marca", Messi is on the radar of clubs in Saudi Arabia, notably Al-Hilal and Al-Itihad. Both clubs reportedly plan to lure the Argentine star with astronomical pay, potentially exceeding 350 million euros! However, all signs suggest Messi's extended stay at PSG.
