Sbarro Super Eight: The 80s tuning icon returns to market
The 1980s were considered the golden era of car tuning. One of the standout projects from that time is the Sbarro Super Eight, which has recently returned to the market after a long absence.
The Sbarro Super Eight is a unique model created by the Swiss tuning company Sbarro and was first presented at the Geneva Motor Show in 1984. The company, unrelated to the pizza chain of the same name, gained fame for its original and intriguing concepts.
The car features a fiberglass body designed from scratch, hiding the chassis and powertrain of a Ferrari 308 GTB. A transversely mounted, naturally aspirated 3.0-liter V8 engine is located in the cabin under a special cover, on which a spare wheel is mounted. A five-speed manual dogleg gearbox transfers power to the rear wheels. The vehicle is equipped with disc brakes and double wishbone suspension on both axles.
The interior maintains many elements from the Ferrari 308, including its switches and the distinctive gearshift gate. Even the steering column comes from the original model and includes the Ferrari VIN number.
Currently, the Super Eight is being auctioned in Paris through Bring a Trailer. It was last up for sale four years ago in Belgium, where its price was equivalent to 183,000 USD. At that time, it had just under 17,000 miles on the clock and now shows about 19,000 miles. The car remains in nearly perfect condition, which could result in a similar or even higher price than last time.
If you are an enthusiast of unique tuning projects from the 80s, the Sbarro Super Eight is an opportunity not to be missed.
