The mattress plays an essential role in our nightly recovery, but it's not just the construction that determines comfort. The key is maintaining proper mattress hygiene, which affects health and sleep quality. Improper care can lead to the accumulation of bacteria and dust mites.

Dust mites are one of the most common allergens and can cause allergic reactions. After a year of using a mattress, up to 15,000 of these microscopic creatures may inhabit our bed. Regular mattress maintenance will help reduce allergy risks and extend its lifespan.

How to care for a mattress?

Keep the mattress clean through regular airing and vacuuming. The mattress should be vacuumed every week or two to remove dirt and dust.

Additionally, investing in a mattress protector is an excellent step to protect it from dirt and spills. The protector can be easily removed and cleaned, which significantly facilitates maintaining hygiene. Implementing such solutions extends the lifespan and functionality of the mattress.

Homemade method for disinfecting a mattress

Wet cleaning a mattress is less frequent but extremely effective. This method allows you to remove deeper dirt and stains. Using a steam cleaner for mattresses is one of the proven ways that allow for the effective removal of bacteria and dust mites through high temperatures.

You can also use a homemade method for disinfection. Simply add two teaspoons of white vinegar and five drops of essential oil (like thyme, clove, or eucalyptus) to a spray bottle and spray it on the mattress. Additionally, for spot-cleaning the mattress, you can use baking soda or a mixture of water and citric acid.
