What leads to cracked feet?

Cracked feet are a fairly common problem and can be quite unpleasant. This is often caused by the fact that the skin on our feet can be up to twice as thick as on other parts of our bodies. Moreover, it tends to peel and regenerate faster. It often becomes dry and taut, and therefore requires moisturization. This skin contains a smaller amount of sebaceous glands, leading to dryness over time. Eventually, this can cause itching, burning, and cracking, and even a yellowish hue. These cracks can cause significant discomfort while walking, and in some cases they might even bleed. The earlier this condition is addressed, the more likely it is to be resolved. Otherwise, the dryness on your feet may only escalate.

How to treat cracked heels at home

Other potential causes of cracked feet include: obesity, hormonal disorders, inadequate nutrition, genetic factors, or chronic diseases. If you're also struggling with this issue, you can treat it at home using our recommended home remedy - baking soda! What effect does it have on your feet? Primarily, it softens the skin, making it smoother. As a scrub, it helps remove calluses and dead skin cells. It cleanses and brightens the heels thoroughly. Simply mix two tablespoons of baking soda with one tablespoon of water to create a paste. Apply this on your feet, leave it on for a few minutes, then rinse off. Afterwards, gently scrub your feet with a pumice stone and dry them. For improved results, apply a moisturizing cream.

Another way to use baking soda for cracked feet

There's also an alternative method to smoothen your heels using baking soda. It involves soaking your feet in warm water mixed with baking soda. Simply add two tablespoons of baking soda to a bowl of water, stir, and soak your feet in it for 5-10 minutes. We recommend applying a cream with urea after the foot bath - it has a softening effect. To create a relaxing ambiance, you can add a few drops of tea tree oil or another oil of your choice. We also recommend soaking your feet in a mixture of milk and baking soda. Simply heat 2 cups of milk and dissolve 2 teaspoons of baking soda in it. Then, as before, soak your feet in this solution for 5-10 minutes. Milk, being rich in fat and protein, will effectively nourish your feet's skin. After the bath, moisturize your feet with cream and wear socks to enhance absorption.
