How do you make homemade orangeade?

Creating homemade orangeade is straightforward. All you need is a good supply of citrus fruits - oranges, lemons, and possibly tangerines or grapefruits, depending on your preference. Homemade orangeade is less sugar-loaded than its store-bought counterparts, which can list sugar under several names, not all indicating a sweetener.

The adults can serve Homemade orangeade with ice cubes and refreshing mint, while the children may prefer a fizzier variation reminiscent of Fanta or Mirinda. Don't water down the prepared juice/syrup; combine this concentrate with sparkling water.

Instructions:

  1. Scrub oranges with a stiff bristle brush. First, dip the brush in water, then take a bit of baking soda on it. Scrub the citrus peel thoroughly, then rinse the fruit under running water (see our guide on removing chemicals from citrus peel).
  2. Peel the fruit and remove the white parts from the peels.
  3. Cut the oranges and lemons into smaller segments and put them into the pot with the peels. Add water, boil, and let it simmer for 15 minutes.
  4. After this, blend every ingredient into a purée and strain through a sieve to get clear juice. If it's too thick, add some water.
  5. Combine the resulting juice with sugar and heat it so the sugar dissolves. Bring it back to a boil.
  6. Pour the finished juice into clean bottles and seal them while it is still hot.
