Reducing bills has become a necessity for many Poles. Due to rising living costs, utility bills, and rent, looking for savings is essential even in basic expenses.

How to reduce your water bills?

Fortunately, there are many clever methods to reduce expenses. For example, water bills can be reduced by several dollars.

One trick involves limiting the amount of water used by the toilet cistern. Often, we don't think about how much water this device uses during normal operation. However, you don't necessarily have to invest in a dual-flush toilet. A simple trick that few people know about can be enough. You can use an ordinary plastic beverage bottle without additional costs.

Try the bottle trick

How do you do it? First, turn off the water supply valve and empty the toilet cistern. Then, fill a half-liter plastic bottle with water, lift the toilet cistern lid, and place the bottle inside on the opposite side of the inlet. Finally, close the lid, turn the water back on, and wait for the cistern to fill. Since the bottle occupies space, the cistern will draw much less water, potentially leading to significant savings.

This is not the only use for a plastic bottle in the toilet. It can also be used to unclog the toilet if you don't have a plunger or a "snake" on hand. Simply cut off the bottom of the bottle and insert it, cut-end down, into the toilet. The bottle must be capped. Moving it up and down, like a plunger, will unclog the toilet after a while.
