Satisfy your sweet tooth. How to make gingerbread syrup for coffee at home

When preparing Christmas gifts for my loved ones, I make an effort to infuse as much love into them as possible. In addition to the gifts on their wish list, I usually include something homemade from my kitchen. These can be cookies, homemade jams, and most often, my simple recipe for gingerbread syrup for coffee. When I first gifted it, it was met with delight, and many have come back for the recipe after finishing their bottles.

How to make gingerbread syrup for coffee

As the days get shorter and temperatures drop, fragrant spices and warming drinks become a more frequent part of my routine. Despite winter tea being a popular choice, I enjoy starting my mornings with coffee enhanced with gingerbread syrup. This concoction certainly improves my mood for the rest of the day. It offers a taste akin to (and even better than) those found in popular coffee shops.

Note that this is not a particularly healthy recipe since it primarily consists of honey. However, it's intended to be a delightful addition to coffee, and not consumed in bulk. Besides, it's popular belief that calories during Christmas don't count, and I'm more than happy to stick to that sentiment!

Ingredients:

  • 1.27 cups of water,
  • 10 tablespoons of honey,
  • 10 cloves,
  • 1 teaspoon of cinnamon,
  • 1 teaspoon of nutmeg,
  • 4 star anise,
  • 4 allspice berries,
  • 2 tablespoons of gingerbread spice,
  • 1 tablespoon of cocoa,
  • 2-4 cubes of dark chocolate.

How to prepare:

  1. Add water, honey, and spices to a pot. Bring it to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for about 30 minutes until the liquid becomes thick and starts evaporating.
  2. Lastly, add the dark chocolate and stir vigorously until it melts.
  3. Strain the drink through a sieve into a bottle.

Remember to shake the bottle before each use. Pour hot syrup only into glass bottles If you have plastic, wait until the syrup cools down. You can also replace half of the honey portion with sugar.

Ways to use gingerbread syrup

The prepared syrup is a delectable addition to coffee, especially lattes. It can also be added to milk or used as a sweet topping for ice cream and other desserts. Enjoy!
