American actor, Ryan O'Neal, has passed away. Known for roles in films such as "Love Story", "Paper Moon", and "Barry Lyndon", he was 82 years old at the time of his death.

The actor's death was announced on Instagram by his son, Patrick O'Neal. "This is the hardest thing I've ever had to say, but here we go. My dad passed away peacefully today, with his loving team by his side, who supported and loved him as much as he loved us", wrote Patrick O'Neal.

Los Angeles, California, was where Ryan O'Neal was born on April 20, 1941. He's the son of actress Patricia Ruth Olgi O’Neal and Irish-American Hollywood screenwriter Charles Eldridge O'Neal.

His career started in the early 1960s, and he gained fame a decade later with his role in "Love Story", where he starred alongside Ali MacGraw. He received an Oscar nomination for this role.

O'Neal appeared in numerous movies after that, like "What's Up, Doc?" (1972), "Paper Moon" (1973), "Nickelodeon" (1976) with Peter Bogdanovich, "Barry Lyndon" (1975) with Stanley Kubrick, "A Bridge Too Far" (1977) with Richard Attenborough, and "The Driver" (1978) with Walter Hill. In "Paper Moon" and "Nickelodeon", he starred alongside his daughter, Tatum O'Neal.

He amassed a body of work that included over 60 films and TV series. However, the most notable role of his career was his performance in "Love Story", earning him an Oscar nomination for Best Actor in a leading role. The film was a huge commercial success, catapulting him to stardom.

O'Neal last appeared in the TV series "Bones" (2006-2017).
