Russia's Su‑75 fighter: Entering production amid challenges
The Russian Su-75 Checkmate fighter has reached a crucial stage in its development, according to Sergey Korotkov of United Aircraft Corporation (UAC), the company responsible for producing the new aircraft. This information was reported on the Bulgarian Military portal.
Many pieces of information reported by Russian media or government representatives are elements of propaganda, forming part of the information war conducted by the Russian Federation.
Developed by the Sukhoi company, the Su-75 Checkmate fighter is now in production readiness. According to Sergey Korotkov, the chief designer and deputy director of UAC, this means the project has entered the phase of final tests and is preparing for serial production.
Development challenges
Despite ambitious plans, the Su-75 project has encountered several difficulties, primarily due to the war in Ukraine and international sanctions that have delayed development. Despite earlier interest from countries like India and Nigeria, the lack of confirmed foreign orders puts the project's future in question.
Still, the Russian aviation industry continues to work on the Su-75 with hopes of capturing the international market. Sukhoi plans to introduce three variants of the fighter: single-seat, two-seat, and unmanned, which are intended to increase its attractiveness to potential buyers.
Key features of Su-75 Checkmate
According to Russian claims, the Su-75 is a fifth-generation tactical fighter that aims to compete with the American F-35. From the outset, the project's developers asserted that the use of stealth technology would offer high performance while maintaining low operational costs.
The Su-75 can reach speeds of up to Mach 1.8 (about 1,367 mph), with an operational range of approximately 1,740 miles. It has a maximum takeoff weight of 57,320 lbs, allowing for the transport of a payload weighing 16,314 lbs. According to Russian sources, the Su-75 will be capable of effective operation under challenging electronic warfare conditions and can simultaneously attack multiple targets, as previously reported by journalist Łukasz Michalik from WP tech.
