Last Wednesday, Gen. Valery Gerasimov, head of the Russian General Staff, called the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Charles Q. Brown Jr., reports the "New York Times."

The newspaper notes that the conversation occurred six days after Russia launched a new type of intermediate-range hypersonic ballistic missile, "Oreshnik," against a target in Dnipro.

According to "NYT" findings, Gen. Gerasimov reportedly informed Gen. Brown that Russia had been planning the launch of the "Oreshnik" long before the U.S. authorized attacks on deep targets in Russia using American weapons.

According to ABC News, Gerasimov initiated this conversation to warn against testing hypersonic missiles in the eastern Mediterranean Sea.

"Oreshnik" flew for only 15 minutes. Budanov: The Russians have completely lost it

Ukrainian military intelligence (HUR) reported that Russia used the Kedr ballistic missile to strike Dnipro on November 21, 2024. The missile, equipped with six warheads, was launched from the Astrakhan region. The flight time to the target was 15 minutes.

Intelligence chief Kyrylo Budanov stated that the missile launched over Dnipro by the Russians is experimental. "There is only a limited number in Russia, at least two prototypes of this missile," he said.

According to the intelligence chief, the attack was a signal that "the Russians have completely lost it." "Oreshnik" is a scientific name; in reality, the system is called "Kedr" and is a nuclear weapon carrier, he added.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that 30 minutes before the launch of the "Oreshnik" intermediate-range ballistic missile, the Russian Federation sent an "automated notification via the Nuclear Risk Reduction Center." The White House confirms this information.
