The murder occurred in October of last year in the Donetsk People's Republic. The attackers entered the Kapkan family home and opened fire with a machine gun on everyone present, including children aged four and nine.
Russian media suggest that the day before the massacre, there was a loud altercation between the soldiers and the head of the household because the soldiers attempted to take his alcohol.
The accused did not plead guilty
The trial was held behind closed doors because the materials disclosed during the trial contained information on the deployment of Russian troops.
The accused did not plead guilty and announced plans to appeal, but the court found them guilty of mass murder and sentenced them to life imprisonment.
