Anton Heraszczenko, an advisor to the Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs, uploaded a social media video in which a mother narrates the ordeal of her son, one of the Russian volunteers who joined the forces to "defend their homeland in Ukraine," and the reality he confronts in the Russian military.
"Hello, I am the mother of a soldier involved in the 'special operation.' My son, a volunteer contractor, willingly signed up, seeking to serve and protect our people and homeland. He is merely 20 years old," the woman began.
She disclosed that her son had been wounded twice, with the second incident occurring in Avdiivka. Despite his injuries, no proper assistance was provided. After only five days in the hospital, despite having a light concussion and a shrapnel wound under his eye, he was discharged - she recounted.
"My son is losing his sight, but that's merely the tip of the iceberg," she continued. She explained that when her son refused to participate in a so-called "meat assault" at the front, his commanders brutally beat him.
"They transported him by car to a field, beat him, and abandoned him there. They took his personal effects, documents, and cards. He's terrified to return. (...) He told me: 'Mom, I don't want to die. The lawlessness there is unimaginable,'" she revealed.
In her testimony, she also highlights the cruelty of Russian commanders towards their soldiers, subjecting them to mockery and torture "to the fullest extent possible." - "They act with impunity. There's no oversight. The distance makes it impossible to intervene and address the abuses," she stressed.
The soldier's mother further shared her struggle to prevent her son from being forced back into combat. - "Many have died, and countless wounded are left on the battlefield without any hopes of evacuation," she reports in the video. This distressing account from the Russian woman may serve as a stark warning to potential volunteers lured to the battlefield for Vladimir Putin.
